Monday, January 4th

Happy New Year!

In Writer’s Workshop we started learning about letter writing. The parts of a letter are: heading, greeting, body, closing, and the signature. We will continue working on letters all week.

During math we reviewed addition and subtraction with and without regrouping. We are all starting to get very good at this! Continue working hard at home. We also colored our calendar pieces – a snowman and a snowflake.

Tomorrow is P.E. and Thursday report cards go home!

Monday, December 7th

Happy Birthday, Jacob!

Today in Math we started our subtraction chapter. We subtracted tens today. Soon we will learn how to regroup while subtracting.

During Writer’s Workshop we started a retelling of The Legend of the Poinsettia. Each student will start writing their own retelling tomorrow.

Our Christmas tree is up and full of lights! We will start decorating it will ornaments this week!

Tuesday, October 20th

During Science we read Bat Loves the Night and Stellaluna. We are learning about bats so we can create our bat reports.

In Writer’s Workshop we started planning our monster stories for Halloween.

During Reading we read Pumpkin Pumpkin and created pumpkin life cycles.

We have read 67 books for Team Peyton! Way to go! Keep reading!

Wednesday, October 14th

Our class has started a reading project with Scholastic. If we read 100 books, we help other students around the world get books. We picked Team Peyton (Manning)! Every night that we read a book, we get a sticker. When we get to 100 books, we send in our poster and help other kids! Please help us read our book every night!

Monday, October 5th

Today we started going to Technology in our new primary Mac lab downstairs! We really enjoy being there with Mrs. Stolle. During math we learned to use our doubles and neighbors while subtracting. We also went to Number Corner. We started discussing antonyms, synonyms, and homonyms. A synonym is a word that means the same. An antonym is a word that means the opposite. A homonym (also homophone) are two or more words that sound the same but having different meanings. We started reading Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.

Tuesday, September 22nd

Today in math we practiced our doubles and leaned about neighbors. If we know that 6+6=12, then we know what 6+7 is. We can use our facts to help us know other facts. Please practice the doubles and neighbors page that is in the take home folder.

During Writer’s Workshop, we made an Alphabet Action book about verbs, Each student picked a verb and made a page about it. We will turn it into a class book.

We read to self, read to someone, and did our word work for the day.

Tomorrow is P.E. Also, don’t forget about the 2nd grade Parent Orientation Thursday night from 6-7 if you are interested.

Thursday, September 17th

Today in music we made projects for Homecoming. During math we worked on addition word problems. We solved them by acting them out. We continued our weekly Target Reading. Today is Constitution Day. We read a Scholastic News over the Constitution and watched a short School House Rock video about the Constitution. During Writer’s Workshop we continued writing our three wishes stories.

Tomorrow is Ready Bodies and Friday! 🙂

Thursday, September 10th

Today in math, we skipped counted by 2’s, 3’s, 4’s, 5’s and 10’s. We worked with patterns on a 100 chart. We are almost finished with our week of Target Reading. We have been reading The Billy Goats’ Story this week. We also did a KWL chart in Science over weather. K – what we know, W – what we want to know, L – what we learned. Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs is a funny story that describes pars of weather. We also read The Substitute Teacher from the Black Lagoon and compared it to The Teacher from the Black Lagoon.

We miss our friends who have been sick. We are continuing to work hard to stay healthy by washing our hands, using Germ-X, and coughing and sneezing into our elbows!

Wednesday, September 9th

Today we talked about patterns in math. In the pattern ABABABAB – the pattern unit is AB. That is what repeats itself.

Today was our first Character Ed day. Mrs. Crossland came into our classroom and taugh us about taking care of people and treating them how you want to be treated.

In writing we talked about nouns. We know that a noun is a person, place, or a thing.
